The San Luis Obispo Wind Orchestra is thrilled to announce its upcoming concert, Melodies of Wonder, featuring acclaimed soprano and Broadway performer Amy Goymerac. This extraordinary event will take place on Sunday, September 29th at 3:00 PM at the Harold J. Miossi CPAC at Cuesta College in San Luis Obispo, offering a magical afternoon of diverse musical selections that promise to enchant audiences of all ages.
Amy Goymerac, known for her captivating performances on Broadway, will join the orchestra as the featured soloist. Her exceptional vocal talent will be showcased in several pieces throughout the concert, adding a touch of Broadway glamour to the event.
The program includes an exciting lineup of works, beginning with the stirring American Overture by Jenkins and the evocative Grand Canyon Suite by Grofé, which vividly paints the grandeur of one of America’s natural wonders. The afternoon will also feature the ethereal Flower Duet from Lakmé by Delibes, a beloved piece that highlights the beauty of the human voice paired with orchestral accompaniment.
Other highlights of the event include Sousa’s spirited Fugue on Yankee Doodle, Anderson’s whimsical The Typewriter, and Mercury’s tender ballad You Take My Breath Away. The concert will culminate with Shostakovich/Hunsberger’s rousing Folk Festival, a piece that embodies the vibrant energy and cultural richness of folk traditions.
The San Luis Obispo Wind Orchestra, under the direction of Jennifer Martin, is dedicated to bringing high-quality wind band music to the Central Coast. This concert, Melodies of Wonder, is an example of their commitment to both excellence and community engagement.
