Good Fire and Cultural Burning with the ytt Northern Chumash Tribe

Join us for a Mind Walk with Becca Lucas Thomas at SLO Public Market! Becca will chat about what “good fire” is, why burning is an important land management tool, and update us on the cultural burns done last year by the ytt Tribe in Johnson Ranch Open Space.

Becca Lucas Thomas is cultural fire practitioner, Cal Poly ethnic studies lecturer, and the Executive Director of the ytt Northern Chumash Nonprofit. Becca did her undergrad at UC Davis, going on to graduate from Tufts University in Boston with an M.A. in Urban and Environmental Policy and Planning and an M.S. in Agriculture Food and Environment. For three years, she worked with the California Climate & Agriculture Network (CalCAN) as the Communications and Operations Manager. Now, at Cal Poly, she teaches courses in ethnicity, land management, and the history of fire. Becca is also self-employed at NegotiateHers, giving women the tools and strategies necessary to advocate for themselves in professional settings and negotiate for the pay they deserve.
