Walking through the barrel room of Lefondusac, I make my way back into the tasting room to find a large open space with tables, antique chairs, and dart boards hanging from the walls. The high ceilings are decorated with dark black chandeliers with a Beauty and the Beast kinda feel. On one of the chairs sits the vineyard cat. His eyes pierce my soul, “You’re here for goat yoga, huh?”
Why, yes. Yes, I am!
I’m thrilled to say that goat yoga has finally hit SLO County with the help of California Goat Yoga and Lefondusac. The event was so popular the first class sold out in one hour which caused California Goat Yoga to add a second class for the day!
So what is goat yoga all about and why the hype? It’s pretty self-explanatory; goat yoga is performing yoga in the presence of live goats. It sounds simple but it’s just plain fun because goats (especially baby ones) are naturally curious and enjoy interacting. Studies have shown that animals can decrease stress and can be therapeutic, this situation is no different. Participants use the session to practice yoga while the goats inspect them or use the session to stop doing yoga completely to pet and cuddle with the baby goats. Who doesn’t love interaction with baby animals?! Plus, Goat Yoga incorporates low impact exercise and muscle building in a relaxed atmosphere. This would be the opportune time to introduce new people to yoga practice.
Yoga mats are provided and the events are held outdoors so don’t forget to bring sunscreen. Class is approximately 1 hour long and there is time after class to grab photos with the goats. California Goat Yoga also offer goat milk soap and other goat products for purchase.
The goats are Nigerian Dwarf goats between 7 weeks to 4 months old and they’re friendly, funny, and have a personality of a dog crossed with a toddler. Honestly it’s hard not to fall in love with them. You may even be inspired to have a goat of your own! If that’s the case then, good news! Goat Yoga is a great way to match up available babies with loving future homes. They have a waitlist on their website where people can sign-up on to receive notifications of goats who will be available. Nearly all their goats are from registered stock and show lines for pet/companion or show families. They do not sell any goats for meat consumption, thee goats are considered furry family members who keeps the grass down.
California Goat Yoga will continue with their regular goat yoga programs in the Paso Robles area and will soon announce a San Luis Obispo location. They are completely mobile so if you are a vineyard owner, want to host a private party, corporate team building event, or fundraiser shoot them a message! They also offer Goat Yoga, Goat Yoga & Wine (ages 21+) and Goat Yoga & Farm Fresh Lunch programs. Discounts are available for fire and law enforcement families.
Next event will be at Lefondusac August 25th. There will be two sessions: 10:30 & 11:45. CLICK HERE TO PURCHASE TICKETS
