Luna Red Breakfast: Seconds, Please

Luna red is stepping up their game with a new breakfast menu and marketplace during the pandemic.

Their marketplace offers farmers market-fresh produce, proteins, craft cocktails, beer, wines, local products, and more. Grab whatever you need to practice those at-home cooking skills, or a (another) perfectly crafted cocktail to sip while you’re stuck at home.

Socially distanced outdoor seating has great views of Mission Plaza. They’ve taken the extra steps to ensure you and your crew feel comfortable during your meal. Your order at the front with the hostess, after ordering you’ll be brought to your table. Each table is clearly marked, there’s 6 feet or more between tables, and everything gets sanitized between each guest.

Luna Red’s new breakfast menu was created by Chef Shaun Behrens. The menu is globally inspired and focuses on local and seasonal ingredients.

Here’s what we had to eat…

Classic eggs benedict with a twist. It has house-made chorizo on top of crispy arepas and generously smothered in paprika hollandaise. A great dish that Ray will happily order over and over again.

We wanted to try a healthy option and this one was packed with flavor and healthy ingredients. Inside is Kandarian farms farro, quinoa, avocado, garlic-fried market vegetables, and egg. I highly recommend getting it with their grilled shrimp to add another layer of flavor.

The grand finale. This menu item blew us away. French toast had a beautiful baby with bread pudding. It’s lightly crisp on the outside and ooey gooey inside. Topped with a generous amount of fresh berries, fluffy whipped cream, and drizzles of honey.

This breakfast had us wanting seconds. We did debate on getting four menu items but we found that three items for two people left us feeling comfortably full.

Beverage wise we kept it classy with mimosas and tried out their “Yass Qween” pink cocktail. Cocktails come bottled and they serve two people, and I’d say they are balanced but strong. Yass Qween’s ingredients include lavender vodka, strawberry syrup, aperol, sour citrus. Click here for full cocktail menu.

Overall we had a fantastic date day and we are DEFINITELY going back for more! If you’re looking for a breakfast location in downtown San Luis Obispo visit Luna Red. Hours: Open 8a -8p daily (open until 9p on Fridays & Saturdays)

Let’s keep supporting our local businesses!
