Film Screening: Omoiyari with Kishi Bashi
Violinist and songwriter Kaoru Ishibashi (Kishi Bashi) embarks on a musical journey to explore WWII-era Japanese incarceration, cultural assimilation, and what it means to be a minority in America today. Along the way, he improvises and writes music in an effort to better understand his own identity as a bi-cultural American. Using archival footage and visual storytelling, Ishibashi creates a portrait of America from the perspective of someone caught between two worlds.
This screening will be accompanied by a live Q&A with the Composer and Director, Kishi Bashi.
Presented by Cal Poly Arts and the SLO Film Center.
