Shekamoo Grill : Opening Soon in SLO
This Downtown SLO Farmers’ Market favorite is now has a brick-and-mortar location in SLO Ranch Farms, and it’s got an expanded, absolutely delicious menu. As you head into SLO Ranch Farms courtyard you’ll find Shekamoo Grill tucked between Sushi Table (opening January 25th) and Palo Mesa Pizza (opening TBA).
Sina’s culinary journey began at home, learning to grill Persian kabobs from his dad and prepare fragrant basmati rice with his mom. These early lessons shaped his appreciation for Persian culture, where food is not only flavorful but also brings people together.
In 2008, while studying engineering at Cal Poly, Sina met Lindsey, who shared his passion for creativity and connection. After graduation, while many of their peers moved away, Sina and Lindsey decided to stay on the Central Coast, a place they both loved. Lindsey’s support and shared vision were instrumental in bringing Shekamoo Grill to life in 2020. We met them outside of the Rodeo Bar in Paso Robles in the middle of the pandemic and we were blown away to see them serving up some incredible kabob! “Shekamoo” is a nickname that Sina gave Lindsey when they first started dating. He would make Persian food for her and she loved it! The word “Shekamoo” in Farsi roughly translates to “Foodie” and ever since it has been their calling. Since then they went from pop-ups all over the county and catering to becoming regular vendors at Downtown SLO Farmers Market.
What to order
The fan favorites are kabobs that come with basmati rice, shallot yogurt, and shirazi salad. You can choose from Saffron Chicken, Hanger Steak, Koobideh (ground beef and lamb), or veggies and get them in in a plate that includes larger portions of everything including grilled onion and tomatoes, a bowl which is a great lunch portion size, or get it wrapped up in a pita.
As always our eyes were larger than our stomachs – we ordered the Loaded Potatoes, Eggplant Dip with pita chips, Saffron Chicken Plate, Koobideh (Ground beef and lamb) Bowl, Chocolate Pistachio Cheesecake, Lemon Pistachio Tiramisu, and a hot cardamom tea ($3). Shekamoo Grill has always been a favorite stop of ours and the flame grilled staples are always spot-on but today eggplant, potatoes, and desserts were next level. Our bill came to about $85 but we left with a large plate of food and a dessert for midnight munching.
Loaded Potatoes $10 – Roasted Potatoes with shallot yogurt, mint pistachio pesto, and crispy onions.
Eggplant Dip $12+ – Roasted Eggplant, garlic and caramelized onions topped with a drizzle of tangy fermented yogurt sauce and fried mint. We upgraded to garlic and herb pita chips for $4.
Saffron Chicken Plate – $20 – chicken kabob skewer, batsmati rice, shallot yogurt, shirazi salad
Koobideh Plate (ground beef and lamb) – $20 – chicken kabob skewer, batsmati rice, shallot yogurt, shirazi salad
Chocolate Pistachio Cheesecake – $7 – Decadent cheesecake sandwiched between smooth layers of chocolate and pistachio cream, all nestled on a graham cracker crust.
Lemon Pistachio Tiramisu – $7 – Ladyfingers layered between Lemon mascarpone and chopped pistachios
We didn’t have it but we have the Lamb Burger on our radar for our next visit!
